Objectives

At the closing session of the project the live presentations of the participants about their experiences eventually proved to come up to our expectations. Participants and other colleagues alike agreed that they were really inspired by what they heard and saw about the mobilities. Everybody became enthusiastic and acquired new ideas and thoughts, and this will definitely have an impact on our school. If we are not able to provide our staff with new impulses every now and again then there is the threat of burnout and a loss of faith in what we are doing. All these mobilities shared this common goal: new empowerment, renewed methods and positive energies for our school. It was also important to involve colleagues who had not yet taken part in international activities before. In addition to the job shadowing experience we also wished to visit French schools in order to build new partnerships. The planned courses could add new knowledge to our existing range of methods that can aid us in guiding our students on the rocky road to their final exams, and enable us to support them as humanely as possible. International relations and the opportunities of mobilities abroad are important pillars of the further existence of our school.

Background

The goal of our project titled “Breakwaters of challenges” was to achieve a complex development of our institution and to address important issues. We wished to involve teachers from all departments, and concentrate on different areas where we lack expertise. When this opportunity arose in 2019 our team defined our goals precisely. We wished to take part in courses that address topics and competences that may not be possible to develop in Hungary. It is important to point out that those courses available in Hungary that deal with similar topics are normally not affordable for our colleagues, so the grant offered an important stepping stone in our careers. Mostly the language teachers wished to take part in courses abroad as they possess the necessary linguistic skills. In the framework of this project we also strove to involve colleagues who are not language teachers, however, as observers they can acquire useful experience that can enrich the pedagogic culture of our school. Consequently, half of the mobilities were planned as job shadowing activities. This way it was possible for teachers of Maths, Geography or P.E. to gain international experience. We were not disappointed as all of them arrived home with important experiences.
