Objectives

Our primary goal was to see as many good practices and adaptable methods as possible in the field of community building, peer support and client involvement through the study visits. In addition, our goal was to develop the professional knowledge of our colleagues, increase their language skills, strengthen their motivation and initiative, and establish a more direct, partnership relationship between colleagues and clients. In order to achieve that condition, preparing of the study visits, we tried to organize a community program in addition to the many professional visits and workshops. Getting to know our partners' peer support practices helped to establish the peer support network of BMSZKI, planned in the near future. The experiences of the participants greatly contributed to expanding and make more colourful the community events related to the 30th anniversary of the BMSZKI, in 2023. Through the study visits, we learned many good practices for establishing more effective cooperation with civilians, NGO-s, local policy makers, and volunteers.

Background

BMSZKI has been managing mobility projects for 18 years. We constantly monitor international trends and good practices, join international working groups, host researchers and volunteers. We also put a lot of emphasis on training our staff, adult educators, and improving their professional skills. Our main goal in this project was to learn directly about the work of our partners that can give new ideas and inspiration to the participants in order to improve the quality of professional activities of BMSZKI and other service provider institutions. We were curious to learn about international experiences in community development, social base building and peer support, and methods of client involvement to enrich these areas of our work. It was important to be able to activate our clients as much as possible, providing them new skills and knowledge. We also aimed to create and develop a better partnership between professionals and homeless people, and to gather practical ideas on how to involve the civil society in our community programmes. Mobility applications are also a way to recognise the efforts of our staff.
