Objectives

Within the framework of the youth exchange programme "Together holding hands improvising visions", we implemented a 10-day international exchange programme with young people from Romania and Hungary, using different drama pedagogical methods and improvisation games. At the end of the exchange, the young people will present the product in the language of art, showing xenophobia and acceptance of each other. Drama pedagogy helps all participants to develop, to acquire new knowledge and skills. Two organisations, DEMKI Nonprofit KFT i.e. Debrecen Youth House and Asociata Pentru Tinerii si Sdutentidin Partium, were implemented between 29.07.2021 and 07.08.2021. The exchange took place at the Youth House in the city centre. The house offers cultural and recreational programmes and services mainly for young people. This is the vibrant and colourful environment in which we welcomed the participants of the international exchange, 32 young people (16-16). The participants were young people who had never been abroad or on an international youth programme. A large percentage of the participants came from disadvantaged small towns and socially deprived areas. The youth exchange combined non-formal education methods with drama pedagogical methods. These two different types of methods provided the tools for the young people's development. Art as a means of self-expression was combined with dramatic-stage exercises (body language, stage presence, movement) to help young people express themselves, share their thoughts and experiences and develop. The objectives of the exchange programme were to strengthen young people's acceptance of each other, to learn about and accept each other's cultures, to foster tolerance and respect, to recognise and cherish our cultural values and to increase their activity in local communities, thus becoming active citizens. The youth exchange had a great impact on the participants, they made an impact on their local communities and organisations through their personal competence based development. In addition to their individual skills, their European values were also developed. It also contributed to the development of European values among the participants, the partner organisation and the local communities. It was possible to share the Erasmus+ experience and the feeling of an international community with the young people involved. In addition, the organisations involved are creating a solid basis for good cooperation. Finally, the local population of Debrecen got to know what the Erasmus+ Programme means and on the final day of the exchange on 08.07.08 the finished product was presented to the public. The exchange gave them an insight into a youth exchange programme.
