Objectives

The project idea was related to a specific need within the Alliance network and the International Voluntary Service (IVS) movement, which is the lack of material and human resources available for member organisations to provide high quality training for project coordinators. The members of the Alliance network propose a wide variety of non-formal education and voluntary activities; among them, "workcamps" (intercultural short-term voluntary actions) are the most popular. The role of workcamp leader (or workcamp coordinator) is essential to ensure the success of such activities and for this reason Alliance members organise specific training courses at national level addressed to the volunteers who intend to take on this task. However, internal evaluation within the network highlighted the need to improve the capacity of members in shaping up their training for workcamp leaders. This need became even more significant after the Covid-19 outbreak, which weakened several members, both in terms of financial and human resources. The project offered a valid contribution to meet partners' need, and indirectly, to increase the capacity of the Alliance in dealing with the preparation of workcamp leaders. The activity provided Egyesek with a concrete opportunity to share its competences and best practice with the consortium, focusing on the development of youth workers, who are directly involved in the coordination of workcamp leader training at organisational level. Not only was the project aimed at strengthening the above-mentioned capacity, but also to better define important elements within the network, such as the understanding of the IVS values and its approach to volunteering and the improvement of non-formal education instruments to be used in training courses. In the light of this purposes, the specific objectives of the projects were: - to provide capacity to organisations in the coordination of high quality training addressed to workcamp leaders; - to enhance involvement of activists, youth workers and organisations within the network; - to developed together a standardized educational model for workcamp leaders training, using a common methodology on behalf of members, the network and youth work in general; - to strengthen the impact of of workcamps on volunteers and local communities; - to strengthen the cooperation and networking process in the network.
