Objectives

A key objective for this first student mobility project was to offer opportunities to those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds to experience employment and culture in another European country, Spain. Participants would have the opportunity to experience different approaches and employment practices in work placements in Malaga, Spain. Participation in the Erasmus+ project would support development of personal competences, self-reliance and self-confidence, along with professional knowledge and skills, digital skills, problem solving, communication and teamwork, improving learners self-esteem and self-belief. The Erasmus+ work related experiences abroad would help improve language skills and develop EU relationships leading to enhanced job opportunities for those unemployed who have returned to college to upskill. Implementing the Erasmus+ project in the College would enhance the profile of the college, the experience leading to improving the quality of teaching and learning and helping to promote lifelong learning.

Background

Deansrath Community College’s Erasmus+ Project was designed to support and enhance student’s VET experience, promoting equity and inclusion by facilitating access to an Erasmus+ learning opportunity for all. Taking part in an Erasmus+ learning activity abroad gave our learners a unique opportunity to experience new horizons and take part in a life-changing experience. Staff interest in participating in an Erasmus+ programme, and support from management, was a key factor in participating in this project. This was an opportunity for staff to enhance their project management skills, while raising cultural awareness and personal development through cooperation with representatives of other nationalities during the European work placement activites. New European relationships would be formed with both host partners and work placements in Spain. Teachers were able to integrate new work-based learning outcomes into vocational specific courses, following work placements visits by accompanying staff, supporting teaching and learning. Participation in this Erasmus+ project enhanced the academic profile of Deansrath Community College, our courses and opportunities for FE students and staff to travel and work in another European country.
