The aim of the project was to increase the knowledge of the participant teachers regarding formative assessment and their skills in implementing appropriate teaching methods. We wanted to give teachers and school leaders an opportunity to experience how effective formative assessment looks in practise so that they will be better equipped to assist and support their own schools in implementing formative assessment and supporting other schools in the implementation.
In recent years, many schools in Reykjavik have been supported to enhance and implement formative assessment under the guidance of four pioneer schools and the Reykjavik city department of education and youth. We applied for this project to build a foundation of six schools that have been enthusiastic about implementing formative assessment in order to further support their implementation. Visiting the schools in Ardleigh Green and vicinity, which have achieved outstanding results with a focus on formative assessment and mentoring, has proven to be an important step in strengthening the guidance schools.
