Objectives

The primary objective of this project was to enhance the skills and competencies of teachers and administrators in handling the educational needs of a diverse student body, with a particular focus on bilingual and multilingual children. We aimed to learn and import successful teaching methods and organizational strategies from schools in Malmö and Oslo, which are renowned for their innovative approaches. Additionally, we sought to equip our educators with techniques to foster tolerance, reduce prejudices, and support students' well-being through courses on cultural diversity and self-care practices like yoga and meditation. The overarching goal was to significantly improve the quality of education in Breiðholt, ensuring it is inclusive, effective, and empowering for students from varied cultural backgrounds.

Background

The impetus for applying for this project stemmed from the need to address the challenges of a culturally diverse student population in the Breiðholt neighborhood. Our objective was to assimilate advanced pedagogical strategies and inclusive educational practices suitable for bilingual and multilingual students. This project was seen as a vehicle to empower teachers and administrators by exposing them to effective methodologies in international settings, particularly those used in Malmö, Sweden, and Oslo, Norway, known for their success in literacy and diversity in education. The aim was to bring back and integrate these insights into our local schools, enhancing the educational experiences for all students and fostering their capacity to achieve their full potential.
