Objectives

The team's main goals were to develop skills in working with innovation in school work. Society undergoes rapid changes and the school has to prepare students for jobs and employment in the future without having a full understanding of what the demands and opportunities of the future will be. Innovation and entrepreneurship are means to that goal. Due to its geographical location, Iceland is to some extent an isolated when it comes to cross-cultural European cooperation. It causes a lack of cultural literacy and opportunities for intercultural cooperation. This distance also causes a certain lack of network between teachers and the learning community is narrower. The goals of the innovation team were to expand the network of teachers, increase cooperation with European schools and thus increase students' knowledge of multiculturalism and cultural differences. The team also felt the need for the participants to practice expressing themselves in English and other European languages.

Background

The innovation team applied for the grant following a European project, but in the 2019-2020 school year, the school sent a team consisting of four teachers to a course in cross-cultural project management, which was their first step in the upcoming European collaboration. There, a contact had been made with one of the teachers of the course who was interested in further cooperation in relation to innovation in school work. As a result, a collaboration with a principal in Slovenia began and the development of a future KA2 project. The project is based on creativity and technology and the aim is to promote students in innovation by giving them the opportunity to design a product and market it. As preparation for that project, the team wanted to attend a course related to teaching entrepreneurship in schools. The course would meet the needs of the participants for increased knowledge of working with innovation and entrepreneurship with students, especially when the creative process is followed by a marketed product. The team's skills in using the technology would be strengthened, the participants could have the opportunity to better connect the students' learning with the real world and not least with the working world. In this way, students could increase their opportunities to study and work across Europe. The team aimed to gain insight into how to enhance students' skills and safety in product design and marketing and their sensitivity to the needs of different target groups with different cultural backgrounds. The course was located in Ljubliana, Slovenia, which gave the team the opportunity to meet the principal and prepare for further KA2 cooperation.
