The hosting and coordinating organisation SEEDS is an Icelandic non-governmental, non-profit organisation with international scope that promotes cultural understanding through the work on nature-oriented, conservation and environmental issues. Frequently, the issue with a lack of engagement in environmental protection is the lack of access to information and education. Throughout various non-formal learning and volunteering activities, SEEDS aims to educate young people and provide them with tools to live more environmentally friendly. Vision The vision of this project was to organise an international mobility that would provide participants with a wholesome picture of the ways that we, as a species, are affecting the environment and contributing to a strain on the planet's resources. We wanted to help young people understand current environmental and political issues, and work out possible solutions to live in a more environmentally friendly. We wanted to achieve a change in their mindset to lead to a change in their every-day behaviours and habits to lead a more environmentally conscious life. Aim and goals The aim of this project was to bring young people from four European countries together in Iceland, and discuss together the whole picture of the impact our society has on the environment and how to minimise this impact. The planned activities covered the following topics: climate change and action; and energy and resources as luxuries provided by the environment. Humans have been exploiting natural resources faster than their ability to regenerate. In order to fit in the natural ecosystem people should start using natural resources in circular systems. Unfortunately the way we do it now is a one way line, we take, we use and we dispose. We wanted to emphasize some good examples from Iceland like the use of geothermal energy and share more ideas on how we could mitigate the carbon footprint of as a country that relies on imports and tourism.
