Objectives

The project was meant to improve and develop language, technological and pedagogical competences for teachers and logical, mathematical and scientific ones for learners, as well as implement activities to raise awareness about the environment. All this by keeping an inclusive focus and giving value to past experiences, thanks to the shadowing of expert foreign colleagues and/or the attendance of specific training courses. More specifically, we wanted to work on - managerial competences (class management, flexible timetables, better use of the school spaces and resources, collaboration with local institutions, sharing of acquired abilities and significant activities) - pedagogical and linguistic competences (CLIL, STEAM, etc.) - subject-matter competences (music, art, foreign languages, coding) - technological competences this in order to raise the perception of the school's European dimension and overcome the sense of mistrust towards 'diversity', to improve students' and teachers' motivation and self-esteem, raise awareness of learning strategies, cognitive styles and approaches necessary to help SEND students, transfer good practices (eg environmental ones) even outside the school with cascading dissemination activities.

Background

Our school welcomes a high number of students with diverse cultures, experiences and needs, and our national standard results are just below the regional average. Our main objectives to approach within a better European dimension were: improve linguistic competences (Italian, English and other EU languages) and logical/mathematical/scientific ones; develop active and democratic citizenship, intercultural and peace education, respect for diversity and cultural dialogue; develop legality and environmental awareness and healthy lifestyles (eg: nutrition and physical education); develop students' and learners' digital competences and laboratorial approaches, contrast drop-out, discrimination and bullying; value learners' excellences; participate in wider school networks. So we felt the need to reach out to more efficient and practical procedures and learning tools without forgetting the founding guidelines of our school. We wanted to widen our horizons by exploring good practices in job shadowing, improve our language skills and pedagogical and subject-matter competences, raise awareness of our strengths and weaknesses, raise curiosity and motivation, explore new approaches and at the same time give value to our context.
