Objectives

As expressed in the institute's RAV, among the priorities indicated was that of "Creating paths for the development of key competences", focusing on linguistic and entrepreneurial ones. To this end, there was a need to improve these skills also in teachers. The teachers felt the need to renew their teaching with innovative methodologies that they had been able to observe in previous experiences abroad to know and experiment with different ways aimed at promoting in students a critical and conscious approach to reality, such as to allow them to find alternative strategies to solve problems. The teachers wanted to develop their language competence to be able to fully benefit from the selected European courses and to report what they had learned in their modus operandi. In this regard, a linguistic preparation was provided for the teachers involved in the mobility. Another possible area of improvement would have concerned the design competence to plan an intervention for and with pupils in order to guide them to self-awareness and self-assessment.

Background

At the time of the submission of the candidacy, the comprehensive institute was called IC Giovanni Paolo II and included the schools of the municipalities of Numana and Sirolo, in the heart of the Conero Riviera, about 20 km from the capital of the Marche region. It included two kindergartens, three primary schools and a lower secondary school, with just under 600 pupils and about 55 teachers. Teachers were strongly motivated to continue training, especially in relation to the English language, because, being a tourist resort, the European dimension has always been within reach. Following the participation in the Erasmus+ KA1 Project 2018-2019, the need to continue the comparison in the European dimension has emerged even more. The needs that emerged from the follow-up and the context in which the school was located directed the focus of the European Development Plan towards the promotion of creative thinking, the spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship and the deepening of the English language. For this reason, after a careful evaluation of the wide range of proposals, the project team selected the courses that best meet the training needs.
