Project summary

CONTEXT Our project ‘’Save the Nature Save your Life’ is being carried out since the beginning of 2020 on eTtwinning . The goal of our project is developing works that were carried out on eTwinning, carrying out them internationally and making them reach more people. Our project aims to contribute to prevent climate change process by educational activities and create awareness about this issue. Our project is a five partner project including Turkish, Spanish and Romanian, Nederland schools under the coordinatorship of Italy. Common activities which will occur with the participation of four students between the age of 13-18 and two teachers from each school have been planned. Two female, two male students and one female, one male teacher will participate in each mobility due to gender equality. HORIZONTAL OBJECTIVE Sustainable investment, education and training, quality and efficiency of youth systems: We aim to help students gain confidence in the process of performing activities with their peers of the host institution; improve their teamwork and foreign language skills; improve their awareness about climate change, critical thinking and problem solving skills in the activities requiring hand skills and make them gain an artistic viewpoint . Environmental and climate goals : We aim sustainable permanent awareness and behavioral change about the climate change for our students. SCHOOL EDUCATION New innovative curricula/educational methods/development of training courses: Our teachers will improve themselves in matters of foreign language skills, entrepreneurship and professional sufficiencies. At the same time, our teachers will gain overseas experience and improve themselves in fields of personal growth and professional growth. Each teacher will reflect learning outcomes of their own branch about climate change on the curriculum. The completed works will be shared at the project website and the school website. CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND We planned our project works under six main themes. These are environmental pollution, industrial wastes, water saving, organic agriculture, other living beings and healty nutrition& illnesses caused by warming. Each partner has a duty on which they are strong. One of the aim of the project is observing environmental policies of different countries about each theme and pointing out their own strong and weak aspects of the countries and developing by supporting more qualified institution to less qualified one and contributing lots of students in the host country in the activities. EXPECTED RESULTS 1- % 88 of the students think that waste materials can be used in making products, the aim is increasing this percentage to % 95 in a two year process and to %100 in the long run. 2- %62 of the students think that climate change can be prevented by activities, the aim is increasing this percentage to % 80 in a two year process and to %100 in the long run. 3- %41of the students say that they participate in environmental activities, the aim is increasing this percentage to %100. 4- %54 of the students think schools provides enough information about climate change, the aim is increasing this percentage to %100. 5- Preventing unnecessary energy consumption in our institutions and at our students’ houses and disseminating this awareness. 6- Using recycling materials and creating awareness on it. 7- Creating the living spaces for the other living being, teaching how to do them and disseminating it. 8- Improving and disseminating the works in our previous E-twinning project. 9- Creating awareness about reasons of climate change. 10- Creating awareness about the damages which the industrial wastes bring to nature and the preventations that need to be taken about this topic. 11- Making students calculate their annual carbon footprints with carbon footprint activity, reducing carbon footprints and creating awareness on it. AFFECT AND LONG TERM RESULTS: 1- Climate change has been defined as a priority of EU Development Strategy by EU and the comission’s suggestion about climate change in strategy.(i) To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigation and adoptation of global warming and climate change effects and to ensure that global warming is kept under 2 ° C, One of the concrete aims of our project is providing long-term effects to achieve this goal. 2- Leaving permanent effects on individuals about air quality, water quality, waste management, nature protection, control of industrial pollution and risk management, chemicals and climate change topics which appears in EU Integrated Environmental Cohesion Strategy Plan (UÇES) (2007-2023). 3- Making participants reduce by %20 of carbon footprint use in their domestic and individual uses in the long run. 4- Making students gain awareness about clean energy and zero waste. 5- Making students stay away from packaged food and make a habit out of healthy life. 6- Creating awareness and skill to use technology for the right purpose.

Final report summary

The first Mobility started in Italy in the month of November 2021. The James Joyce High School, which studied the effects of pollution on water, did some scientific experiments using the water taken from the surrounding lakes (Nemi and Castel Gandolfo). Besides, some videos concerning advertisments teaching the correct use of this element, were projected at school. The Science teacher built a virtual Museum, thus presenting the autochthonous plants. The use of water was also demonstrated for its role in the preparation of food. In a Farmhouse in Genzano di Roma boys and girls prepared and ate some Pizza. The second Mobility took place in Romania, in Arad, between the end of March and the beginning of April. The activities concerned the industrial waste. As a first step to put a remedy to the negative effects of the industrial pollution, there was an activity of reforestation done in the Mures Flood Plain Natural Park, an area rich in rivers, lakes and a place of passage and nesting of various species of birds. Students did activities of recycling with the aim of producing artistic items using old newspapers or other tghings. As for the previous Mobility , the students did some interviews to common people to test the impact of the problem on the inhabitants of that place and to organize some debates during the last part of the Mobility. In october 2022 the partners went to the Netherlands. The topic to deal with and to study was Organic Agriculture. For this reason the students involved picked up some Marigold (Calendula) flowers used to produce some ointment. Boys and girls attended some courses on the cultivation of flowers, nutrition and its consequences on health, and the caring of animals. During the stay the schools involved confronted ont the topic concerning the sustainability and the habits to adopt once come back to their own nation. Teachers and students visited some farmhouses and that activity brought to the production of projections, posters and videos. In January 2023 the schools involved in the project went to Spain, Vila-Real. Once again the accent was put on the activities of recycling. Specifically the students learnt how to obtain the envelop of their food using recycled material. The topic to study concerned the environmental pollution, as a consequence the Spanish school studied some water taken from the sea, and organized some visits to the Planetarium and to the Oceanografic in Valencia. Another activity took the title Hike in Nature and discover a National Park, as a stimulus to increase the awarness about the importance that a right behaviour from everyone of us, can contribute to the maintenance of the natural Heritage. The students from the partner schools were involved in the activity known as Hands-on experiment on Microplastic in the Laboratory of Chemistry of the Spanish School. The observation of the surrounding landscape, the scientific experimentation, the debate concerning the obtained results, were the activities mainly done and they brought to the production of posters concerning issues as the pollution, the climate change, and the pollution of the seas and the oceans. Turkey and specifically the city of Konya, hosted the partners in the month of March 2023. The topic studied concerned the correct use of the energy sources. The students of the different schools enriched their knowledge about how to obtain different items from the recycling of paper destined to be thrown away. To stimulate the awrness concerning the delicacy of the balance which rules our ecosystem the students and teachers involved in the project visited the Butterfly Garden. The students discovered the world of this insect of basic importance for the above mentioned balance which symbolizes its indisputable precariousness. An overall look on the different ecosystems featuring the different areas of the planet was possible thanks to the visit to the Science Museum which has inside some simulations that besides giving the opportunity of experimenting the different climates to be found in the different parts of the planet, query the visitors about their daily behaviours and the effect these last have on the well being of our world. During this Mobility too the involved students interviewed some common people particularly on the way to Anatolia and Cappadocia. The projects started in 2020 but the pandemic didn't compromise its development which went on by means of regular meeting online which permitted the exchange of information and a reciprocal knowledge among the participant countries. The students increased their awrness concerning the necessity of acting with a deeper responsibility for a safeguard of the ecosystem, an attitude that has become a must for their future as citizens of the world, as the lived experience permitted a cultural and linguistic growth.
