Objectives

The idea of the ULYSSES youth exchange started from the awareness developed within the Vicenza Youth Project and shared with other youth services in the Vicenza province of the growing number of young and very young people who do not complete the higher education cycle by dropping out of school. The reasons for this phenomenon may be more than one: acts of bullying suffered, ineffective school orientation or stress levels related to school results that are too high. ULYSSES involved young people of various nationalities, giving priority to those who were at risk of dropping out or who had already dropped out of school. At the centre was the theme of each participant's personal journey, abandoning social constructions or expectations that can be difficult to bear. The exchange activities were designed to retrace the footsteps of Ulysses' journey to return to Ithaca by reconstructing each person's self-image stripped of external expectations in order to approach a personal narrative of their individual story. Storytelling is therefore the main non-formal tool used in the activities aimed at the group of participants. The project objectives are as follows: -sharing different experiences related to the school context among the participants; -promote the use of the storytelling tool as a response to increased self-knowledge; -decrease the number of school drop-outs in the territories participating in the exchange; -testing and disseminating some non-formal tools that can foster young people's well-being inside and outside the school institution; -promote an intercultural approach to interpreting the problem and the possible related responses; -promote effective school and career guidance that is linked to the knowledge of the young person and involved; -build a text that brings together the individual and group experiences that will be narrated during the exchange.
