The project "Non Formal Environmental Education to Enhance Youth Inclusion and Participation" was developed to foster youth empowerment and participation practices within local communities as well as to enable the direct involvement and facilitate the social inclusion of young people, especially those from geographically and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This proposal was the result of a long-term educational journey undertaken by several youth work organisations as well as the direct follow-up of previous ERASMUS+ activities carried out in cooperation with the ORA European Network (Observe, Think, Act). Through a fruitful and intensive work on field in close contact with the local community (green and protected areas, municipalities, youth associations, etc.), the multi-activity realised a number of activities in the field of the youth work. developing an educational, cognitive, formative and experiential pathway based on the principles of Non Formal Education, combining them with the tools of Environmental Education and the themes of Sustainable Development in order to enhance the "natural capital": the project, on the one hand, responded to the needs of inclusion, active citizenship and personal development of young Europeans and, on the other hand, to the need to make youth work on field more qualified and capable of intercepting the needs and requirements of the target groups. The educational process directly involved 92 participants, including trainers, facilitators, youth workers, managers of youth centres/organisations and especially young people mostly from the area of disadvantage from different European countries (Italy, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro). The project was composed of four different mobility in order to have the possibility through the Online Seminar (23 and 24 September 2021) and the Study Visit in the UK (Blackpool, 25 November - 1 December 2021) to synthesize different experiences, methodologies and good practices by identifying and defining fields of intervention and qualitative guidelines (Observe), through the Training Course (Borrello, 03 - 11 June 2022) to reflect on one's own social role (youth workers, educators, animators, volunteers, managers of youth centres/organisations) and on how to improve the quality and efficiency of the activities carried out within the protected areas (Reflect) through the Youth Exchange (Tornareccio, 21 - 30 July 2022) to directly involve young people, in particular those coming from the area of disadvantage (unemployed young people, regular users of social services and/or youth centres, second and third generations of immigrants, young people from vulnerable categories and/or ethnic minorities, young people in NEET status), in the management of a nature reserve from the artistic, educational, infrastructural and social/communicative point of view (Act). As a whole, the project increased the knowledge, skills and capacities of the partner associations and their operators through the implementation of a set of good practices, modules and working tools concerning the use of sustainable development and environmental protection to facilitate the participation and socio-economic growth of young people and the communities in which they live. It also made it possible to directly involve young Europeans, and in particular those from disadvantaged areas, in the implementation of an educational path within a protected natural context in order to encourage and strengthen their sense of active citizenship through a direct connection with the local community and natural capital and to promote development that is sustainable, inclusive and participatory. All the results and products realised during the entire project were collected in an information booklet as a further sharing/dissemination tool.
