Objectives

Body Beats project stemmed from the belief of the importance of arts as a channel to unite people, to unite a group of young people who are ready to support themselves, to move in unison and who are capable of develop specific competences planned in the beginning. Our personal experience through other Erasmus+ projects already showed us a specific side of arts, the community side, which is capable of going beyond language and prejudice barriers. We believe that this kind of initiatives gives everybody a chance to move into the artistic world, promoting an alternative learning method, the non-formal one, encompassing the direct involvement of youngsters, who are the real protagonists of this project and who have the possibility to naturally implement their knowledge with spontaneity. That’s why we chose to work with other youngsters, with the future European citizens, to discover together a universal language through a specific work on rhythm, because it is universal and goes beyond skin colour and beyond borders, knowing that the power of this non-verbal language can make everybody feel as a part of unique, big community. With this project, we wanted to be promoters of a different type of learning method, which can go beyond the classic formal education and which embraces a direct approach, the “Learning by doing” approach, providing participatory methods focused on the learners, with the belief that: - the process of knowledge is dynamic, fluid and should invest everybody regardless of the person’s age or of the person’s role the society (LifeLong learning); - the learning process should not be limited at the physical spaces reserved to the formal education as school or university, but it should find space on a stage or in the middle of some remote village square too (LifeWide Learning); - past experiences, personal stories, everybody’s necessities and feedbacks are fundamental to keep modulating the activities depending on the whole group’s needs (LifeDeep Learning). Therefore, the goals we set in harmony with the Erasmus+ goals, were: - creation of an international network of subjects sharing the same social and community values; - development of a common international language, both verbal (English) and non-verbal (body-language, rhythm); - ongoing contamination of ideas, traditions, knowledges; - development of previous competences; - overcome shyness, fear of ourselves, fear of confrontation, prejudices; - discoveri arts as accessible ways to anybody and as a working opportunity (social entrepreneurship); - expansion and dissemination in our countries of origin of what we learned during the exchange.
