La rete di 6 partner, attraverso la realizzazione dello Youth Exchange Local Roots Global Boots si poneva tre obiettivi principali: il primo quello di incrementare la partecipazione dei giovani nei progetti di city farm; il secondo quello di portare i giovani a riflettere sulla sostenibilità, nello specifico sulla produzione di cibo, coinvolgendo i ragazzi in questo processo; il terzo era di rendere consapevole i ragazzi e le ragazze dell'importanza di avere esperienze e scambi attraverso incontri interculturali, allargando così i loro orizzonti. Imparare facendo, con persone di età e culture diverse, prendersi cura di animali e spazi in natura, rispettando le diversità. Imparare l'importanza della produzione dell'utilizzo di cibo biologico usando i prodotti della fattoria e preparando semplici ricette. Applicare la sostenibilità non solo al cibo ma anche alle azioni quotidiane, trovare soluzioni a basso impatto ambientale, come costruire una dry compost toilet. Infine scoprire culture diverse: sono 6 i paesi che hanno partecipato allo scambio e che, grazie a momenti programmati, hanno conosciuto differenti tradizioni culinarie, musica, giochi, abilità e linguaggi scoprendo differenze ma anche similitudini. Possiamo concludere dicendo di aver in gran parte realizzato gli obiettivi che ci eravamo posti.
We have three main objectives why we want to carry out this youth exchange. One is to increase the participation of young people in the projects of the City Farms and to share and create methods between youth workers to achieve this. The second is to reflect about sustainability, more specifically about producing local food and involving children and young people in this process. The third objective is to make youngsters aware about the importance of gaining intercultural experience and widening their horizons. The title 'Local Roots...global Boots' refers to these objectives: together we will put on our boots and go in the fields, literally to harvest and work in the soil and on the farm, figuratively to work together and learn from each other. 'Roots' refers not only to the roots of plants and vegetables growing on the field, but also to our youngsters, who came as a child to our farm. Now they are youngsters and still come to the farm. You can say their 'Roots' are on the farm... “Global” because they will widen up their horizon, get to know new cultures in a creative way and get out of their comfort zone.
