From Greta Thunberg's words from the stage in Piazza Castello 'What we do in the next 10 years will influence our lives, those of our children and grandchildren. 2020 is the year of action.", a group of young people from Beinasco promptly took up the call to action and identified the organisation of a youth exchange on the topic of environmental sustainability as an opportunity for growth, asking Madiba SCS operators for help. The themes that the young people brought to the table were the desire to transform the dialogue around climate change into a concrete attitude, based on the comparison with non-national realities and the will to unite for a common goal, starting from the sustainable goals of the 2030 Agenda. Groups of young people aged 16 to 29 from Italy, Greece, UK, Croatia, Hungary, Spain and Portugal then shared ideas to arrive at the definition that the Be Green IT project would pursue the following objectives - Create a space for discussion and sharing, allowing for a deeper insight into some of the current environmental and health issues affecting our lives; - create and/or propose solutions that can be implemented in everyday life; - increase skills for social campaigning in order to continue to catalyse positive change in the local communities in which one lives; - gain awareness of the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programs in developing project ideas that promote the values of environment, health and sustainability. The objectives that the Be Green IT project set itself are many, all of which have in common a growth factor: of the people, local communities and organisations that took part in the project. The SDG's of the 2030 Agenda were certainly a fundamental starting point for the development of this project (in particular goals number 3, 11, 12, 13 and 15), to which were of course added those of the European Youth Strategy of the Erasmus+ program, i.e. Engage, Connect and Empower young people with a view to citizenship extended to the borders of the European Union. "Being able to continue to grow and improve as European citizens in a concrete and real way is crucial for our future. As a group of young people, we feel that it is no longer the time to wait for someone to take the initiative for us when it comes to environmental protection and sustainable development, so we want to carry out this exchange to spread the message that everyone is an agent of change and it is important to understand that we need to act to ensure the sustainability of the planet for our own and future generations". The macro-objectives were obviously to raise awareness on climate change issues and to develop a constructive and multicultural dialogue between the participants to promote virtuous and generative practices also in their local contexts. Indeed, it was through an inclusive, free and constructive methodology that the 50 young participants were able to discuss issues such as food waste, resource use, waste management and the promotion of sustainable living. The specific objectives that the project set out to achieve during the mobility week included - create moments of dialogue and discussion on topics proposed and explored directly by the participants - structuring workshop, play and creative activities that, through the methodology of non-formal education, addressed the environmental issue; - structuring moments that would facilitate the development of practical skills such as reuse, recycling, construction of objects, cooking skills; - build an awareness-raising campaign to be disseminated on social networks; - provide young people and youthworkers with new tools to deal with environmental issues in non-formal education contexts in their territories. Furthermore, during the outdoor activities, the group was able to experience direct contact with nature and learn about the peculiarities of the place around them, exploring plants, animals, food and drink that many of them had never seen before. The sharing of spaces and the division of tasks during the week then ensured the achievement of another, more indirect but equally important objective: that of increasing the ability to organise and adapt in a community living context and the interest in other cultures, languages, daily habits and people with very different backgrounds and origins.
