Objectives

"Youth creativity for Europe: let's imagine a common European memory" intended to involve young people between 18 and 25 years of age from six different nationalities (Italy, Portugal, Poland, Germany, Ireland and Estonia) in a double mobility project to strengthen their competences of European citizenship and their sense of belonging to the European context. We have started from the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the discovery and creative reworking of the crucial European memorial. The member states that make up the European Union are bearers of different pasts and therefore of profoundly different and sometimes diverged or conflicting memories. The knowledge of the historical roots of these diversities, their value within the European Union and their cultural expressions have become in this project tools to allow young people to rediscover their national memory and live an experience of intercultural encounters and dialogue; that could lay the foundations for a shared and European memory capable of expressing those values on which the European Union founded its dream and its path of integration. Experimenting with this type of reflection among young people in this historical moment was of fundamental importance. Taking up the "Resolution of the European Parliament of 19 September 2019 on the importance of European remembrance for the future of Europe", we wanted to reflect on how the social context of recent years had been characterized by the increase of political groups and parties that incite ideologies openly racist and xenophobic and which contribute to the spread of a climate of intolerance where the fundamental rights of the individual are gradually questioned. However, this panorama could not leave us indifferent as young people and civil society organizations. The general objective of the project was to generate an intercultural experience in which young people from different European countries could reflect on the values that unite them as Europeans and express through artistic tools their sense of European citizenship and collective European memory that would place the centre democracy and the protection of rights. The project intended to create and disseminate by the participants three outputs as an expression of a common European memory: - a timeline of the people and movements that have marked European memory - a show or a symbolic action to be offered to other European citizens - a digital map of places that represent a common European memory
