Objectives

The 'DEAL-Develop, Empower, Achieve, Learn' project was originally initiated by Madiba (Italy), Asociación Mojo de Caña(Spain), Asociatia Culturala Dacidava(Romania), PLANBE PLAN IT BE IT(Cyprus), VEGA OMLADINSKI CENTAR(Serbia), EVROPSKE CENTRUM MLADEZE BRECLAV EUROPEAN YOUTH CENTRE BRECLAV Z. S.(Czech Republic), SOPRO - Solidariedade e Promoção ONGD(Portugal), STOWARZYSZENIE MOJE MARZENIA SPELNIAJA SIE(Poland), Kids in Action(Greece), Malta UNESCO Youth Association (Malta), Jauniesu centrs "Baze"(Latvia) and Compass Európai Ifjúsági Közösségért Egyesület (Hungary) as a proposal for a long-term project to be implemented in 2020-2021, structured in 3 phases: Training Course, Practice Period and Consolidation Seminar. The project was only approved for the first mobility, so in agreement with the whole partnership there was a decision to wait for the best possible moment to implement the in-person activity. At the application stage, all partners had recognised that one of the main problems of the NEET phenomenon (young people not in education, training or employment) was the scarce or total lack of employability, understood as the ability to obtain initial employment, maintain it and change it if necessary. While the issue of employability and the prevention/countering of the NEET phenomenon was already of strong interest at the time of application, two years later and in the midst of the pandemic, it was recognized by all partners that it was important to postpone activities until it was possible to carry out the in-person training as planned. The project therefore developed as planned, as far as the first mobility was concerned. Through DEAL, we raised awareness of employability as a crucial tool to decrease the level of youth unemployment in the partner countries and worked on developing youth workers' skills in personal development and methods to encourage and empower young people in their communities to take action to become agents of positive change. The effect of the pandemic amplified the participants' interest and motivation to reflect on the concepts of crisis as an opportunity and resilience by reflecting on both a personal and professional level. The main objective of this mobility project was indeed to provide youth workers, trainers and partner organisations with tools and ideas in order to improve their approaches to work more effectively in their communities with NEETs and those who are at high risk of falling into this category. Encouraged by the European Youth Strategy 2019-2027 and the European Youth Goals we added our contribution to "engage, connect, empower" young people in Europe. This activity addressed the topics of self-development and youth unemployment, thus, addressing the common need to address the issue and create new ways to approach these topics. Moreover, contextualized in the post-pandemic recovery period, it addressed a complex and difficult problem in the international socio-economic landscape and did so by enhancing, cooperation and intercultural learning, especially in the long waiting phase before implementation, with information and good practices shared across the European Union. The main objective of the project was to create a hub of tools, methods and practices on personal development that can be used by those working with young people (in any context: formal, non-formal, vocational, etc.) in order to support them in improving their employability and pursuing different career perspectives, working on their own life project. This was achieved through the following objectives - Improving the participants' skills needed to facilitate the personal and professional development of the young people they work with. - To provide space for sharing experiences and good practice in the field (in particular: development of key life skills and employability). - Gain first-hand experience in a range of personal professional development tools. - Enable participants to act as multipliers in order to put the experience gained during the project into practice and disseminate the results to interested parties. - Explore possibilities for future cooperation between participants and organisations involved. Participation in the project was also an opportunity to expand the partners' international networks and to lay the foundations for the development of some future activities around the themes of Employability and Personal Development (both local and international).
