Objectives

One of the tasks of the school is to strengthen students' learning motivation. Researchers found that motivation is closely related to the learner's level of emotional intelligence and social security. To promote student‘s motivation, we had to not only develop methods that would interest citizens growing up in a highly dynamic society, but also strengthen them on an emotional and social level. This has a long-term effect on their maturity, so integrated emotional and social education should be started as early as possible and continued through all stages of education. This task obliges the teacher to work creatively, to apply more diverse teaching methods. The experiences gained in foreign educational institutions encouraged teachers to apply innovative methods in their work, not only for themselves, but to introduce new practices into the school's strategic planning and implementation. The project diary and brochure created during the project allow the good experience to be spread not only among school colleagues, but also at the district and national level.

Background

The school in Gelgaudiškis provides pre-school, pre-primary, primary and basic education, so our pedagogues accompany students from infancy to maturity. School values: Respect, care and tolerance, responsibility and honesty, creativity and activity, citizenship and shared leadership. In order to nurture these values and strengthen them, we had to increase not only the students' academic knowledge, but also to educate them comprehensively, to develop their emotional and social intelligence. Intercultural cooperation provided an excellent opportunity for teachers to improve their competences and strengthen their understanding of the cultural context. Participating in courses in another country gave our teachers the competence to creatively apply innovative methods. The school's participation in international projects gave not only knowledge and competences, but also raised the prestige of the institution and its employees. The acquired intercultural competencies, improved knowledge of foreign languages through direct cooperation with foreign colleagues, had a positive effect on preparing students as European citizens and actively involving them in various European activities.
