Objectives

The objectives of the project were: 1) to strengthen science education by moving some of the activities from the classroom to green learning environments and creating such spaces in the school environment; 2) to expand the variety of formal and non-formal teaching methods and forms by organising activity-oriented, multi-subject (science, social studies, values education) integrating activities outdoors; 3) to develop a sustainable relationship with the environment by fostering empathy and respect for life; to develop ecological attitudes by approaching the object of study from a holistic point of view (ecological, economic, social etc.) 4) to develop and strengthen networks of practices, principles and partnerships with other EU institutions by participating in work observation and training activities and by transferring good knowledge and practices. The aim of the project was therefore to provide participants with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in applying non-traditional teaching methods in green learning environments; to analyse and master natural science activities and research methodologies; and to expand the variety of teaching methods and forms that promote the development of sustainable development competences.

Background

According to the PTMG European Development Programme Strategy 2013-2022. 1) To achieve a higher level of quality in education by expanding the variety of learning methods and activities that ensure success and progress; 2) To strengthen the interaction between natural and social sciences, the organisation of integrated science education by expanding the variety of forms of natural science activities, research methodologies, organising education in innovative, virtual and/or green learning environments, making the best use of the already available spaces for non-traditional education (e.g. 3) using non-traditional educational methods to strengthen the learning motivation of children with learning difficulties. In order to meet these needs, it was necessary to strengthen the teachers' competences in the subject areas of general education, science and sustainable development. Teachers were able to acquire and develop these (including knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, motivation and commitment) through training and a field observation visit to EU partner institutions with such experience.
