Objectives

The goal of our project was learning to organize learning in virtual learning environments in order to implement the model of classroom without borders and improve the teachers' digital competence. Our objectives were as follows: 1. To get acquainted with the virtual learning environments used by teachers from different European countries and to learn how to use them. 2. To learn how online teaching resources, learning activities and interactive content can be created and uploaded on virtual learning environments. 3. To get acquainted with the possible digital tools for assessment and learn to use them. 4. To explore how the use of digital technologies can promote more efficient cooperation with the students' parents and other teachers. 5. To learn how a coherent strategic plan of digitalization on the school level can be prepared. 6. To develop the teachers' general, professional, digital and language competences and their ability to cooperate.

Background

One of the priorities of our school is to implement the model of classroom without borders in order to ensure a dynamic and open learning environment. Our teachers had some experience of conducting lessons in non-traditional environments, however, the implementation of the model of classroom without borders did not include efficient exploitation of digital resources and virtual learning environments. The context of our school (a big number of students, a growing number of special needs students, increasing problems related to students' absence from classes) urged the need to implement more modern teaching models, with at least part of the teaching content uploaded to virtual learning environments, in order to ensure convenient access to the content both for students and their parents so that they can improve their knowledge and do not lag behind. The analysis of the teachers' self-evaluation reports revealed that our teachers lacked digital competence and ICT skills; they did not fully exploit the possibilities of digital technologies in order to enhance the students' active involvement and cooperation in the learning process, differentiate learning activities and evaluate the students' progress. Therefore, we set a goal to focus on the improvement of our teachers' digital competences.
