Objectives

This Erasmus+ ‘’Peace in Diversity’’ project consisted of a one stage Youth Exchange aiming to learn, discuss and tackle diversity-related conflicts issues in the EU and EECA region. The main focus was to inform participants of different types of the conflicts, to investigate root causes of these challenges as well as to give solutions for the matters. Throughout the whole project non-formal education techniques were the main tools to be used. The special countries chosen for the collaboration in raising awareness on the diversity-related issues were Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Spain, Georgia, Turkey, Germany, Slovenia. Participated countries have diverse populations. For example, Germany is the second most popular migration destination in the world, after the US. Lithuania is the most ethnically homogeneous of the Baltic States and only in the capital of the country 128 nationalities estimated in 2011. Ethnic minorities make up about 10% of the population in Azerbaijan (Russians, Armenians, Talyshes, and etc.) and 30% in Turkey. Diversity conflicts, which are one of the most violent types of conflicts, damage the personal development of young people who are the most vulnerable members of these societies and destroy their ability of creation, innovation, decision-making, problem-solving, etc. With these 'Live' & community-level conflicts, it is especially important to actively work with young people to develop the skills they need, both as individuals & as peacemakers, who will spread European values (Peace, Democracy, Freedom of Speech) in their own communities, become active citizens & develop effective strategies to address the issues of discrimination & marginalization in their local societies. Conflicts not only lead to unemployment rate or lower economic states of some minority groups, but also harm their mental health by means of discrimination, racism and other factors. All the mentioned problems made us implement this project in order to highlight this challenging situation, raise awareness about these conflicts and to find resolutions. Main objectives project were: • To raise awareness about types of diversity conflicts, their impacts and possible results. • To explore ways to confront discrimination and to highlight a European dimension • To develop intercultural dialog and tolerance among participants in the field of cultural, social, religious and other type of diversity • To motivate young people to be part of social life and inclusion in society • To explore cultural tolerance in a multicultural environment by the power of non-formal education • Extend knowledge of participants about Erasmus+ and provide information related to it
