Objectives

The youth exchange project "Faces of history - Faces of Europe" imparts knowledge about the life of people during World War II and about their attitudes and about the development of the European Union to young people from Luxemburg, Belgium, France and Germany. It reminds them of the achievements of EU and the European integration and promotes a common, supranational, European view on history. The participants deal with human rights and reflect on their personal situation today and about the current political situation in Europe. They concern themselves with the values on which EU is predicated, with their identity and their cultural influences, and discover what these values mean to them. They discover their options to engage for the maintenance of a democratic culture, for a peaceful, respectful and tolerant living together, and to appreciate cultural and language diversity. They become aware that they are the ones to pass on these values. The living together in an international group and the discovery of the Luxemburg area allow them to develop their cross-cultural competence, to reduce contact barriers and prejudices. The group will deal with digital media and social networks as a method to work on the subjects mentioned. The participants will use social networks as media for remembrance and promotion of values. Like this they take part actively in the discourse about EU and become creators of remembrance. They are going to train their digital and creative skills and deal with the chances and risks of social media. They reflect on the role of social media in the current debates and discover strategies on how to deal with hate speech in the web and how to counter xenophobic statements.
