The goal was to cover multiple and different educational fields and subjects. It was important for the school to accept and start working with based on the competency approach. New learning methods could help the teachers to improve their existing ability to work. The teachers could easier accept all the new changes if they could hear true stories on how to teach differently and how it happens in real life. The activities included in the project are based on improving teacher knowledge about new approaches and methods, about the role of the environment in the teaching process, well-being, through skills and intersubject connection, their meaning in everyday life.

Background

The long term target for Ozolnieki High school is modern and quality education. However establishing modern and quality education is not an easy task which could be done without teachers learning. For teachers to establish a modern and quality education, they have to be professional, versatile, confident and elastic, to be able to adapt to changing life circumstances, and to also be able to cooperate with others. Considering that when the School2030 standard was introduced, the teachers were lacking knowledge and experience on how to work according to the competency approach. To make the competency approach work, the teachers have to learn a lot and understand the difference between the approaches. The school knew that the teachers have to gain new experience and learn in order to be able to work with new methods. Further education course organisers pay extra attention to the competency approach. Course programmes are based on skill acquisition, real world situation, critical thinking, self-control and other aspects. The teachers have to be open to all new. Considering all that was new, the school concluded that the teacher has to start with self education to be able to transfer the new knowledge and competencies to the students.
