Objectives

The project helped to shape and develop 21 st-century skills (communication and problem-solving skills, planning, self-discipline, adaptability, initiative, teamwork and creativity). Project participants gained international experience in the field of catering service and woodworking, increasing their competitiveness in the labour market and expanding their vision in the field of professional activity, ensuring personal growth, and promoting their mobility and activities in an international environment. The acquired skills and competencies were assessed in international practice by means of the hosting organisation's certificate and the Europass Mobility Document. A certificate of practice for vocational students is proof of vocational training, increasing their competitiveness in the labour market. For accompanying persons, participation in the project provided new knowledge in the organisation of working practices and facilitated international cooperation with sectoral experts. Since a catering programme teacher with vocational training students works with trainees in a catering company (in recent years it is a fixed workplace at Radisson Blu Hotel), the teacher also had the opportunity to familiarise herself with the latest technologies, equipment and industry trends at European level in the catering company of the organisation.

Background

The project was confirmed in 2020, before the Covid-19 period. In the 2018-2020 development plan of Viduskurzeme primary school - development centre, one of the priorities was the quality of the implementation of vocational training programmes according to the state of health, capacity and level of development of learners. The educational establishment's development strategy also currently states that offering education should be open to the world of work and that vocational education should enable students to acquire knowledge and skills that would help them integrate into the labour market. Therefore, one of the key challenges of sustainable education in vocational education was to focus on the acquisition of comprehensive knowledge and the development of vocational education in line with labour market trends. Vocational training programmes of Viduskurzeme primary school - development centre - include the ability of pupils to develop theoretical and practical knowledge of the technologies and environment relevant to professional qualifications and to develop the skills to respond to their professional competence, achievements and performance. From courses 1 to 3, vocational students in the training programme shall be given the opportunity to work in their chosen profession, familiarise themselves with the working environment and understand whether the profession selected is of real interest. It is also important to get to know employers' demands. The educational establishment has cooperation with a number of employers in the district of Kulgia, but the possibility of working in an international environment allows for practical experience in businesses in Europe and familiarity with employers' demands, improving their knowledge of foreign languages, obtaining friends in other countries, obtaining a more comprehensive view of life, becoming motivated and confident, improving their self-assessment and importance of young people with limited opportunities and special needs. Through the implementation of Erasmus mobilities, the educational institution promotes inclusion and equality in the paradigm of sustainable development. International practice makes a significant contribution to the development of the vocational education and training programme of Viduskurzeme primary school - development centre for vocational training, facilitates the creation of an attractive and targeted career opportunity for people who are threatened to be forced out of the labour market due to their special needs.
