One of the strategic objectives of Daugavpils Medical College is to promote the international dimension of students and staff activities by supporting the internationalization and mobility of the learning process to increase and strengthen theoretical and practical knowledge, skills in quality patient care, and further application of the acquired knowledge in the field of health care in Latvia. Therefore, the regular planning, coordination and implementation of Erasmus + activities in the short and long term has always been an important challenge for the College. This is determined by new guidelines for patient care; new modern and more efficient technologies are emerging, thus changing the requirements for pedagogical staff and medical students. The support for Erasmus + is very important for gaining new professional experience. The College participation in the programme promotes the mobility of students and staff, enhances and expands the experience of staff and students, which in general contributes to the quality of training programmes offered by the College, improving the quality of practical training and contributing to the implementation of the international cooperation
In line with the Сollege strategy to establish an open, long-term development-oriented medical institution in Daugavpils and in the region as a whole, it is important to adopt best practices from Europe, transfer and develop innovative methods not only in one's own institution, but also be ready to share experience. Therefore, for the College, accredited as a legal educational institution of the Republic of Latvia for an indefinite period of time and providing the opportunity to acquire the vocational training programme "Nursing" (35a723001) with the qualification of a "nursing assistant" (what relates to the above-mentioned project application), it is important to acquire appropriate skills to expand the opportunities for the College graduates to find their place in the Latvian labour market, including the EU.
