To provide high quality education in current times, it’s becoming clear that formal education approaches alone are not enough to educate students and prepare them for modern society. Schools are increasingly looking for different ways to innovate their educational approaches, in order to address the needs that modern society puts on young individuals, the teachers of these youngsters and the educational institutes that provide this education. However, one of the biggest challenges they face is that most schools and school staff themselves have (almost) no experience with innovative methods and non-formal education. They lack the competences and good practices for innovating education, which are an essential basis for implementing major innovative changes within educational approaches. Another big challenge for educators today is working on the topic of the inclusion of children and young people. For example including a newcomer in a classroom, a child from a social risk group, a child with a different physical appearance, different ethnicity or cultural background, or certain mental or physical limitations.
