Inclusion - equity

Objectives

How is exclusion/inclusion created? Are people aware of their behaviour which creates exclusion? And how to boost the behaviour which supports inclusion? These are the main questions we are tackling during the 2 phase Youth Exchange project called Werewolves vs Aware Wolves. In 2 completely different, but complementary youth exchanges we explored the topic of SOCIAL INCLUSION – the way how we make “others” part of our society and turning them (in our eyes) to “us”: to Europeans, and more importantly “to Humans”. Our VISION was COMPASSION leading to acceptance of everybody, and our GOAL was “To make people step behind their fears and approach everybody with compassion and love.” The project allowed participants 1) to research their local realities, shared fears and judgments, 2) to bring awareness of how one’s behaviour and attitude influence other individuals and whole communities, and 3) a deepening into how we as individuals can become more compassionate and empathic through the practice of mindfulness and meditation. Our OBJECTIVES were: 1) To create a safe, diverse, yet challenging learning environment for young people from different backgrounds to experience a more conscious view on life, 2) To support participants in an analysis of the culture they live in and how it influences their behaviour, 3) To let the participants experience and name their behavioural patterns, and to identify the changes they would like to make and how to do them, 4) To deepen our compassion and empathy for one another by sharing and exploring various mindfulness practices together, 5) To create personal, peer-mentored, and carefully crafted follow-up activities for each participant, supporting them to make positive behaviour changes in their daily life, 6) To implement min 2 local activities in each country involving the local community of the participants, sharing their learning outcomes with them, 7) To create an online Mindfulness challenge for increased understanding of INCLUSION, and share it with our target groups, creating an even larger impact and visibility of the project. The project followed the objective of Youth Policy to promote social inclusion and foster solidarity. The project Werewolves vs. Aware Wolves was a YE project consisting of 2 phases that were both complementary to one another while being fully self-sufficient. This allowed us to target both the group which is already open to mindfulness (phase 2), but also the group which might not be open yet to these topics (phase 1). With this project, we hoped to create an opportunity for both of those groups to come together and meet each other, live together and be inspired by their shared differences. With Werewolves - creating a fun, active, dynamic environment - a game where participants are the main actors and have the chance to reflect deeply on themselves. And with Aware Wolves - a still joyful, but more focused discovery of how much further our individual self-awareness can be taken through exploring various mindfulness practices and integrating them into our life.
