We are sure that the motivation and the future of our pupils depends on the teachers motivation. We wanted to motivate the teachers by enabling them to improve their skills, knowledge, awareness and competences in general, as well as the competences regarding inclusion of the students under risk of leaving the school early and prevention. The proper international training where the teachers would exchange experiences with colleagues from all over the world with similar problems and challenges with the students and their parents, would be the right choice, especially since there are not many schools facing the same problem in a that large scope in our country to be able to exchange experience localy. The school management wanted to pay particular attention to planning and providing a continuous professional development to its staff, which is considered to be one of the key preconditions to a quality education, effective teaching and learning and attaining high achievements. We decided we had to increase the number of competent and certified teachers to work with Roma pupils who come from poor families, so they would be able to discourage poor school attendance and dropouts.
Brakja Ramiz-Hamid is the biggest Roma school in the region and wider, with 99% Roma students from ShutoOrizari. Our full commitment goes to improve the number of Roma pupils enrolling from elementary to secondary schools. One of the main fields we must work on in order to accomplish this is through increasing the number of teachers with competences to work on ESL and dropouts. There were no teachers with competences to work with students under risk of ESL and their parents. The use of modern international methods and techniques for discouraging students to drop out is something deeply needed. In order to imrove the situation we need to increase the number of teachers and school staff competent to work in such an environment, competent to work with Roma pupils who come from poor families, and to directly influence on decreasing the number of pupils with poor school attendance, as well as on decreasing the number of dropouts and increasing the number of pupils transitioning from primary to secondary school which would lead to more graduated Roma people, that directly influences the future integration of Roma in the society in the country and wider.
