The idea for this project came from the consultations with the Macedonian National Agency, during the annual meetings of the EVS/ESC accredited organisations. We wanted to provide youth workers with the possibility to improve the field of ESC mentoring. According to the information from our National Agency, it was pointed out that the mentorship of the ESC is a weak spot of the volunteering projects, so we decided to tackle this problem. We wanted to carry out this project in order to improve the quality of volunteering projects, which in turn depends on the quality of mentoring. In this project, we trained youth workers in the field of mentorship to become better and/or more qualified mentors. During this project, the participants learnt the importance of the role of a mentor in the volunteering projects and how to help the volunteers in the whole learning process during ESC. The main goal was to train youth workers in the field of mentorship by sharing good practices and ideas, to raise the quality of mentoring within the ESC support structure while offering excellent quality to ESC volunteers. The objectives of this project were: - clarifying (raising awareness about) the role of a mentor; - identifying a common understanding of the role and needs for mentors; - developing consciousness of the learning processes in which the volunteers and mentors are involved; - being able to identify key moments in the volunteers and mentors development by a better understanding of how learning, development and personal change occur; - to teach the mentors different tools and methods for support; - to understand the task and the importance of the mentor's valuable contribution; - to show the difference between coaching vs. mentoring; - to offer a space for sharing experiences and good practices among mentors; - to develop a strong connection between the mentors & volunteers; - to find new ways for the volunteer to be motivated and inspired; - to expand the network between the organisations who are working with ESC; - to compare expectations with reality, misinterpretation of ESC; - supporting the returning ESC volunteers; - to give information about ESC; - the current situation within our partner organisations. With our sessions during the working 6 days, we managed to meet all the objectives planned for the activity.
