The main objective for implementing this project was to enhance teachers’ professional development focusing on training to become better trainers. As a school we aim to promote self-sought professional development courses in which teachers will acquire and improve their competencies and contribute to the creation of a more modern, dynamic and professional environment within our school. Teachers will be more confident to integrate good practices and new methods into daily activities and enhance their professional development. Well planned out and effective professional development includes training courses, feedback, dissemination, adequate time and follow up. It helps teachers to update their knowledge in relevant areas, improve skills and be more of new approaches and techniques in education. This will foster teamwork among staff members and enhances the necessary support to other educators. Through this project the school will give teachers the opportunity to enhance their training skills and develop an understanding of types of learning and training. Such training emphasises the importance of developing a learning environment and offer stakeholders opportunities to increase creativity and enhance their learning, stimulates achievement and self-efficacy.
As a school our aim is to provide quality education, excellent leadership, incorporate professional development opportunities for staff and build bridges between all stakeholders and the community. Being part of MRC, such aims work hand-in-hand with the college’s vision which focuses on holistic education and promotes independent learning. Our college and school encourage educator-to-educator learning and invest in educator’s professional development and sharing of good practices in order to improve teachers skills and leadership. Teachers working within the Education Department are required to enhance their professional development and skills in line with the needs of the school. Our school development plan gives us an overview of the priorities which the school will focus on in the coming year/s. One of our main challenges is finding time for teacher collaboration and reflective dialogue. Throughout the scholastic year, teachers are involved in CoPE (community of professional educators) training. Such sessions offer focused and specifically targeted training. Staff is involved in learning activities which are useful both for the classroom as well as to build an interest in developing the school as a learning institution.
