The main objective of our Project entitled 'I BELONG - Inclusion in the 21st Century' is to help educators, students and their parents face the new challenges, brought about by the ever changing school, country and European reality. It is also targeted to improve the educators competences, skills and teaching methodologies. This will give them the opportunity to discuss with other educators from different European realities. Moreover, the theoretical knowledge gained together with gained experiences will ultimately leave the desired impact on the students, especially those considered as disadvantaged. On the other hand, as a college, we hope that the training will also have an impact on parents. Our school development plan, specifically targets the accompaniment and sensitization of parents on the main targets from early childhood to the time the students leave our college at 16. Our objective is to come up with strategies that shall eventually be compiled into a tool kit which we will be disseminating to parents after different strategies are collectively tried and tested.
Inclusion is at the heart of the school's ethos. Societies are becoming increasingly diverse creating the need to respond to new educational challenges. Our college embarked on a series of extensive consultations about the school's areas of development with educators, students and parents. Upon discussions, the following targets were highlighted and are the focus of the School's Development Plan, namely Challenging Behaviour, Gender, Multiculturalism and Active Learning. Both on a European level and also on a National level, educators are to ensure quality education for all, irrespective of gender, ethic minorities, migrants and different learning abilities. Given that the school will become fully co-ed in the next few years, educators felt the need to participate in training in the mentioned targets. Moreover, in addition to this it is important to ensure and allow our students to fulfil their potential as confident and active citizens who are facing constant challenging situations.
