Objectives

ROCvAF wants to create an inclusive community where students develop essential skills to participate in society and prepare for their future careers. Through internationalisation activities we aim to equip students for the intercultural society and the internationally oriented labour market. Located in the metropolitan area of Amsterdam, ROCvAF benefits from an international and diverse environment, making it crucial for each student to acquire international competences. Our primary objective was to ensure that internationalisation becomes accessible to all students and staff, including those facing various obstacles. Additionally, we aimed to foster collaborations abroad, including in Belgium and Malta. Belgium, being geographically close, presented opportunities for convenient international mobility experiences. On the other hand, Malta, being an English-speaking country with established connections with ROCvAF, provided an ideal setting for students to gain valuable international exposure. Overall, this project aimed to empower our students and staff with the necessary international competences, preparing them to thrive in our diverse world and contribute to the internationally-oriented labour market.

Background

The ROC van Amsterdam–Flevoland (ROCvAF) applied for this project to enhance the number of international mobilities and increase the accessibility of an international experience. We want all our students to become more internationally and interculturally competent and to prepare students for the internationally oriented labour market and diverse society. International mobility helps to develop personal and professional competences of teaching staff and learners. ROCvAF sees internationalisation as a way to increase the quality of education and for potential collaboration on the themes inclusion, sustainability and social innovation. As one of the largest ROC’s in the Netherlands, we had an ambitious application as we wanted to make sure that our students and staff would be able to pursue an international internship, job shadowing, or a group study visit. This application was submitted just before the COVID-19 pandemic started. The lockdowns that followed had a huge impact on the possibility to do an international mobility. Consequently this project was extended until 2023 in order to increase the number of international mobilities within this Call. In addition, the ROCvAF also put more emphasis on Internationalisation at Home.
