Objectives

We decided to implement this project in order to improve the level of key competences and skills of youth workers, including those with fewer opportunities, to promote human rights principles and values, participation in democratic life in Europe, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue and social inclusion. Our aim was to spread tools and methodologies, which would support youth workers, practitioners and NGO workers to implement non-formal educational activities based on human rights education with young people. Using the techniques introduced at the training course, youth workers are now more supported to raise human rights awareness in youth and educate them against discriminatory attitudes and behaviours, thus equipping them with skills to confront them. They have gained knowledge, skills and attitudes to create a rights-based learning environment in their communities, which fosters universal values, equal opportunities, diversity, and nondiscrimination. Objectives of our project were: -To increase participants awareness and understanding of the concept of diversity in order to address intercultural context of human rights in their training and youth work practice. -To reflect on the relation between intercultural learning and human rights education and to support participants in further developing their potential as learners and facilitators/trainers. -To engage youth workers in civic activism and involve them in the work of democratic institutions, by developing policy recommendations. -To develop a network of like-minded individuals and organizations ready to cooperate on future projects related to human rights and intercultural learning. -To develop a concrete plan for follow-up projects and local activities focusing on human rights in an intercultural context. This project also aimed to contribute to more socially inclusive and sustainable societies, promoting solidarity and respect, and seeking the elimination of all forms of discrimination, with a human rights and gender equality approach. Learning about human rights is the first step toward respecting, promoting and defending those rights. Through our project we empowered young practitioners and enhanced their ability to participate actively in society, enabling them to be more engaged in the social and political life of their local communities and becoming active citizens. After improving their skills and competences, youth workers have improved their capacity to instill in young people a sense of respect toward other human beings and inspire them to become, in their own right, educators and activists who will assist in the defense of human rights. This project contributed to the improvement in youth work by fostering exchange of good practices and tools in cooperation with NGOs from different countries (including both Programme countries and Partner Countries).
