Objectives

By implementing this project, we would like to promote a respectful attitude towards the environment and create a sustainable living model in connection with the nature. We would also like to focus on cultural learning and active citizenship, having environmental sustainability as a base. The three main aims of this project is to involve youngsters on the verge of school dropout, tackle the topics of cultural learning and environmental sustainability and empower the youth to feel more confident about their role in the community they live in and become active citizens in their communities. The idea and need for a project focused on sustainability and environment were born during our last YE EMPACT + in Greece (we were partners) about how to enhance the quality of project management in Erasmus plus projects. One of the tasks was to come with projects in mixed teams which the participants would like to carry out, and the Dutch team recognized that there was a need of doing a project on sustainable, eco-friendly living combined with outdoor activities & active citizenship so that the topics would be actually tackled among young people. As the idea came from the youngsters themselves, the decision was made to make it in the forum of youth exchange and they created a project plan on these topics. During the group discussion it became evident that Turkey would be the place where they would like to carry out the project, as it is currently in need for environmental action and awareness promoting events among all age groups, and events tackling environmental issues are especially needed in rural areas. Combining the project activities with outdoor activities and active citizenship, it will allow youngsters not only to come up with ideas, but also carry them out and interact with the local organizations of Sigacik in Turkey. Moreover, it is not only Turkey that will benefit from this project, but all participating countries, as the current climate crisis is global, and we want to involve, in particular, youngsters on the verge of dropping out of school from each participating country. This is why we want to organize and implement a Youth Exchange "The Eco Tribe" in which we want to address the topics of sustainable living and raise awareness for our environment; promote active citizenship & healthy and outdoor lifestyle, as well as the curiosity and desire to learn among youngsters. As the YE is going to take place in different villages of Turkey, we would also like to focus on the cultural heritage of the hosting and the participating culture, and organize activities having cultural learning as one of the key elements. The idea is that the group will form 5 different (eco) tribes; each tribe will design their own culture, logo, identity, traditions and values, and will stand for an ecological problem they would to solve. The problem will be the cornerstone of their tribe, and, based on this, the tribe will think and implement outdoor activities and civic actions that can take place in villages, universities, hospitals and other places around Sığacık. These activities will also become a base for further active participation and action on the local level in the participants’ communities when they return to their home countries. Most of the ancient and even current remote tribes always have been one with the environment and merged their culture with the nature around them that all is part one big eco sustainable life circle which always met its demise when having contact with the outside world. We want to use that tribal thinking as base for this YE, so that all the actions that are thought and carried out by the participants and the culture that is developed by each tribe, are aligned with the environment around them and a respectful living model is created by each of the tribes. The OBJECTIVES of this project are: To raise the awareness about the eco-friendly lifestyle/about the environment and sustainability To stimulate youth participation & active citizenship To discover and promote principles of an eco-friendly lifestyle To understand a long-term perspective of the benefits of having an eco-friendly lifestyle and how this influences the whole nation To coordinate and work constructively with others, overcoming cultural and language barriers, to achieve common goals; To promote the accessibility of the Erasmus + Programme for young people with fewer opportunities. To show youngsters opportunities that can be created by them for developing areas. To challenge and practice creative thinking. To use creativity to express their opinions and thoughts. To foster peer-to-peer dialogue about matters concerning youth participation in developing processes on local level. To share knowledge, experiences, strategies, tools and ideas. To raise cultural awareness, foster inter-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding
