Objectives

In general, we wanted to increase our staff’s interest in taking part in ERASMUS activities. More specifically, we wanted to give our teachers the opportunity to observe classes abroad, within a variety of subjects. We had identified three subject areas where we wanted to learn more from outside sources; Humanistic subjects, Science subjects, and foreign languages. Our aim was to give our teachers useful impulses and inspiration to take back, and to further develop their own teaching practice. We also expected this activity to have a positive influence on other colleagues, which, in turn, would increase the overall quality of our education. With regards to the interdisciplinary topic of 'Democracy and citizenship', we wanted to learn more about how a school in central Europe approach this topic. When it comes to science subjects, we wanted to learn more about how AMG recruit students to these subjects, as this has been a challenge in our school. We also wanted to learn more about how AMG cooperate with corporate enterprise, researchers, and institutions of higher education. Within foreign language subjects, we wanted more insight into how German students are motivated for studying second foreign languages.

Background

Our geographical location in the outskirts of Europe leads to a natural need for us to stay in touch with international institutions of education. Tertnes Upper Secondary School has been active within the field of internationalisation the last couple of years, for instance through KA2 Strategic partnership projects in 2016-2018 and 2018-2020. Internationalisation is an integral part of our enterprise, and the activities are well entrenched in our development plans. As a result of our participation in above-mentioned projects, and other international activities, we have experienced a wish and a need for more impulses from outside. In the new national curricula there is a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary topics, and we find 'Democracy and citizenship' particularly relevant and interesting connected to internationalisation. Through these projects, we have established good relations to teachers and staff in foreign schools, and we have a wish to maintain and build on these relations. The main objectives with this project are to learn more about foreign language teaching, approach to science subjects, and social science subjects, as well as observe and learn about how others approach interdisciplinary topics.
