Background

Luster municipality and the schools in Luster will follow up on the requirements set by the new curriculum body. It also requires that the school renew itself when it comes to working methods and current topics. The STEM and STEAM approach - integration of technology, science and mathematics - is better known from English-speaking countries than Norway. The acronym stands for respectively Science Technology Engineering Math / Science Technology Engineering Art Math. To increase competence and experience with this interdisciplinary approach to teaching will be able to develop a teaching practice that is both more practically oriented, more relevant and motivating for the students, factors that contribute to reducing dropouts in further education. Participating in courses and hosting with STEAM as a focus will provide valuable expertise to individual teachers and build capacity in the participating schools and in the municipality as an organisation. This in turn will have ripple effects in that other schools in the municipality and the region are drawn into subject networks within science, arts and crafts and ICT/programming.
