Objectives

Increasing the knowledge of students in other building cultures is crucial for developing well-rounded professionals who can navigate a globalized world. It enables them to understand different architectural styles, building methods, and materials used around the world, which can be important for developing innovative solutions and contributing to sustainable building practices. For example, understanding how traditional building methods in hot climates like the Middle East or Africa contribute to natural cooling, can inspire new ways to design energy-efficient buildings. Moreover, learning about how different cultures use and adapt to their natural surroundings can inspire new ways of thinking about sustainability and environmentally friendly design. Exposing students to a diversity of building cultures can also help develop a deeper understanding and respect for other cultures, which is important for promoting collaboration and understanding across cultural boundaries.

Background

Applying for an internationalization stay in Spain can be a very rewarding experience, not only because it provides the opportunity to broaden one’s horizons and experience a new culture, but also because it offers valuable experiences that can contribute to personal and professional development. For me, there are several reasons why I applied for an internationalization stay in Spain, and these reasons are related to the motivation to complete the school year, learn about new building cultures within construction, and also develop a global understanding and perspective. Firstly, completing the school year can be challenging for many reasons, and motivation may wane over time. However, an internationalization stay can serve as a catalyst for increased motivation. Being in a new environment, meeting new people, and experiencing a different culture can provide renewed energy and enthusiasm for learning. This can also help develop a greater appreciation for the importance of education and how it can influence our future. Additionally, learning in an international environment can help develop a broader understanding and perspective of the world, which can be important in an increasingly globalized world. Secondly, within construction, it is important to understand the various cultural aspects of building. Spain has a rich and varied building culture, with a long history of architectural innovation and design. From the historical monuments like Alhambra and Sagrada Familia to modern structures like Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia, Spain has a diverse building culture that provides a unique opportunity to learn and understand the various aspects of building. This can be extremely valuable for a future career in construction, as it can help develop a broader understanding and knowledge of different building methods, materials, and design principles. Lastly, studying abroad can help develop a global understanding and perspective. In a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected, it is important to understand the different cultural, social, and economic aspects of various parts of the world. This can help develop a broader understanding and empathy for other people and cultures and can also be valuable in a future career, as it can help understand and navigate an international work environment. In summary, applying for an internationalization stay in Spain can provide a range of benefits, from increased motivation to complete the school year, to valuable knowledge and understanding of new building cultures within construction, and also the development of a global understanding and perspective.
