Our focus as a school is for our students "to be preparing for the future, and learning for life". We take our social assignment seriously and see that internationalisation is an important tool to achieve goals in the county`s regional plan for the entire course of schooling. The students are supposed to learn in different arenas. In our county the labour migration from Poland is siginificant, and our students will meet Poles in their future careers in Health- and Childcare sectors. With this as background we have pracice in two polish Kindergardens and in two departments at a day care centre for mentally retarded grown ups. Some of the students have practice where very young children can grow and are very suspectible to beeing influenced by democratic and understanding methods. Other students have practice with adults who must have good arrangements to have good every day life and to be a resource for society. In these two learning arenas the get their practice with a whole generation and even if the students work on the same worksites they reflect upon their work assignments after work where they coach each other to come up with tasks which give god development through joy and engagement.
Our school has a long - term commitment to strengthening student`s understanding of, and expertice in, how to live in a multicultural society built on democratic values and human rights. Nøtterøy Upper Secondary School acknowledges that in order to solve our shared European challenges we need to start with bringing change to our local communities. As a tool to encrease students` school motiavtion and give them experiences that can contribute to increased coping with life international practice our goal for the students that attend studies in Health Care and Child and Youth work are that in the future they will become contributers to spread what they`ve learn to their workplaces where they begin their apprenticeships. They can influence younger students whom they are eventually responsible for when they themselves have become skilled employees and will train younger students in practice to become future collegiate workers.
