Objectives

We aim to achieve increased competence for both students and teachers. This is because we live in a multicultural society, where we believe it is crucial for students to have competence in various cultures. This will provide them with a better understanding when interacting with other people, and they will be able to utilize this knowledge in the workforce. Through internships, both students and teachers acquire new knowledge that can be applied back home, including new methods and tools related to teaching and the workforce. Furthermore, we believe that this project will make students attractive job candidates, having acquired knowledge about a new culture and expertise from practical experience in the Netherlands. We also want to facilitate life skills and public health. Through the project, students have the opportunity to become more independent, taking greater responsibility for themselves, their classmates, and interacting with many new acquaintances. This will strengthen their social competence. We also focus on establishing a sustainable cross-border collaboration between students and teachers through the project. This means that we educate ourselves on what citizenship entails and increase the students' civic awareness regarding citizenship

Background

We have maintained a collaborative partnership with ROC Friese Poort for several years now, and the project has been functioning smoothly with excellent learning outcomes for both our students and staff. Our experience shows that it provides a unique opportunity for students to become familiar with different cultures, gain exposure to diverse workplaces through internships, learn about varying educational systems, interact with students from ROC Friese Poort, and establish connections there. Unfortunately, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has prevented us from visiting in the last two years. However, we have applied for this project again as we want to take our students back, building on the positive experiences we've had in the past. Moreover, the year-long emphasis on internationalization provides us with the opportunity to involve the entire class in the project, not just those students traveling abroad for their internships.
