Objectives

The goal for most vocational students is to get an apprenticeship. 2 years in a vocational course is part of the path to reach this goal. We have a long-term plan and idea for students from all vocational education programs. One of the highlights is to give students the opportunity to spend 2-3 weeks with a company in a foreign country. The work- and personal experiences they bring home, and share with co-students and teachers, are amazingly valuable for further planning of foreign exchange. It melts learning and motivation into the everyday life and has a positive impact for the entire school. We want to increase the students' experience, competence, and maturity via this opportunity. We want to make this program of opportunities attractive, and to see the value of positive competition among the students in the different classes. We also want to find increased motivation and learning pressure among the students by creating a positive process throughout the year with good criteria that everyone could strive towards.

Background

We have for a long time had a desire to give students from vocational subjects the opportunity to have work-training with companies in foreign countries. We have been inspired by other upper secondary schools in our region, who have experienced great results and increased motivation among the students, for several years. When the possibility of an internship abroad is introduced, the motivation of those who want to register as candidates is shared in the group. This affects the learning and teaching environment for all. of work, and they work hard to reach their goals. The students receive training and practice in the school’s close neighborhood, according to Norwegian tradition. With this project, we want the students to experience how the vocational training is run in other countries. Also focusing on how to work with sustainability, the environment and school traditions. For the teachers, we want them to experience and build a broader picture of the education system, teaching, and learning. As they work their way through job shadowing and building relations, we discover that networking across borders is of great importance in our society today and for future collaboration.
