We wanted to increase quality of the level of education at our school through the realization of the project. The main goal was strengthening the teachers’ competence necessary to make the students with special needs aged 10-14 become more included and engaged in school’s life and during the lessons. The specific goals were as follows: 1. Increase in the number of teachers using English on communication level enabling them active participation in international projects 2.Improvement of the teachers competence in terms of inclusion education which should help the students with special needs become more engaged in class and school’s life. 3.Increase in the number of joint actions of the students with and without special needs 4.Improvement of the students’ social competence observed in lessening the number of improper behavior towards the students with special needs 5.Increase in tolerance and openness attitudes towards the people coming from different social backgrounds 6.Increase in the number of the lessons with ICT tools which could enhance active participation of the students with special needs.
We decided to apply for a project "Different Yet the Same. Inclusive Education as a Support for the Students with Special Needs Education " after analyzing the school's needs and possible educational development. It matches with the school's priorities and objectives expressed in European School Plan. We applied for it to improve the teachers' skills and competence and support the students' proper social attitude. Because there are older students at our school the teachers had to improve their communication skills, learn how to deal with conflicts among the students and any possible intolerant attitude towards the weaker and the students with special needs. It was necessary to strengthen the pedagogues' competence in terms of the students with special needs as well as inclusive education. Up to now the methods used with the children aged 6-9 have brought positive effects but we feel that we need some more knowledge to work effectively with older students especially in terms of building proper relationships with others ,cooperation and social involvement. These were the reasons of our interest in inclusive education which is a bit different in comparison to integration way of education of the students with special needs.
