One of our goals was to organize various classes and activities for students, not only in English but also in French and German. We wanted to carry out educational projects with the students in different languages and organize language conversations. This helped our students improve their language skills, also by learning from native speakers throughout international exchange programmes. English speakers, on the other hand, needed to deepen their personal direct experience of functioning in the culture and language they teach. In order to be credible to the students, who now travel a lot, the program helped us in becoming more credible and up-to-date. In the area of European cooperation, we also wanted to be able to help students prepare for universities throughout Europe.
XVIII Jan Zamoyski High School is a school that has been among the top schools in Warsaw for 25 years. "Zamoyski", as we are often referred to in Warsaw, is especially known for teaching science and natural sciences. Our students are successful finalists and laureates of olympiads, including a winner of the prestigious European Union Contest for Young Scientists, EUCYS. However, we needed support in teaching foreign languages, strengthening multilingual activities and exchanging experiences with teachers from other countries. Our objective was to learn more about different educational systems in Europe: discover the phenomenon of British education, find out what knowledge we can acquire from our German neighbours and why graduating from some French schools guarantees excellent career prospects. We hoped that participating in the project would give us a chance to discuss issues , look for solutions, do "brainstorming" not only within our circle, but also with teachers from other countries.
