Objectives

The main goal of our project was the comprehensive professional development of teachers based on the development of key competences, civic and intercultural education, ICT, informal and outdoor teaching. Thanks to the acquired competences, we wanted to change the way we educate and motivate young people. We wanted knowledge to be transferred in combination with developing skills and shaping civic attitudes. By introducing informal and outdoor education, we wanted to motivate students to experience and experiment independently, as well as develop soft skills, such as critical thinking, effective communication, negotiation and team building skills. The teachers' participation in the project was intended to improve the level and quality of teaching in our school thanks to their commitment to improving their work, i.e. using foreign languages and modern technologies, gaining experience from the educational systems of other countries and using the informal aspect of teaching and outdoor activities in their work. When creating the project, we wanted other teachers, the school and local communities to benefit from the experience and knowledge gained by the project participants.

Background

When applying for this project, we wanted to initiate activities in our school that would contribute to the personal development of students and teachers and, as a result, be beneficial to the school and local communities. We have noticed that school is not only a place where subject content is taught, but above all a place where young people learn how to live in a society, solve problems, learn critical thinking and the ability to act for the common good. An important element of teaching is its informal dimension, which goes beyond the classroom. By diversifying extra-curricular activities, we wanted to give students a greater opportunity to develop skills and interpersonal competences, and thus activate them to take action. Our observations showed that students are willing to engage in activities outside the classroom where they can use modern technologies. Moreover, they are interested in learning about European culture and traditions during outdoor activities.
