The main aim of the project was to increase vocational skills of the students in their specializations: gastronomy and bakery. We wanted also the studnets to leave their comfort zone- the school, where they can easily communicate with anyone in sign language. The mobility was supposed to allow them to check their abilities in an international environment- enhave communication skills, handling stressful situations and develop self-confidence. The gained and documented experience will enable them a better start in the labour market and improve competitiveness. The project also aimed to promote learning English and enhance motivation to learn foreign languages. We wanted to develop the intercultural awareness and openness to other cultures.
Students with hearing impairment have fewer opportunities in the labour market. Due to their disability, employers might apprehensive in employing them, afraid that they will not be able to communicate well. Therefore, in order to provide equal opportunities for these students, we want to give them the best chances for development and gaining vocational experience. The project allowed 8 students to take part in a two-week-long internship abroad which helped them gain knowledge in gastronomy or bakery and enhance their skills in preparing a variety of dishes. The students were working in international groups. Not only did they develop their competence in English, but more importantly they developed their confidence that they can manage different communicational situation, regardless of the lack of common language.
