The project Inner Bridge was designed in order to create space for the youth workers to develop their emotional awareness through the tools inspired by therapeutic approaches (art, movement, music). The idea was born on the training course “Invisible Power: Unlocking the Emotional Potential” in 2018 in which many participants expressed the need of understanding better how the body and emotions function and how they can use that knowledge in their youth work. The importance of connecting with the body and ability to express the needs and feelings has defined the theme of the project and the methods we have chosen for the programme of the training course. The methods were inspired by art therapy, music therapy and dance and movement therapy as well as movement improvisation. The overall aim of the project was to foster excellence in education by empowering youth workers and educators with creative methods for raising emotional awareness and self-expression to enhance young people’ confidence and self-esteem. Through the process of understanding better our needs and feelings to express them in creative ways, participants became more compassionate towards themselves and learnt through their own experience what is important to support other people in their development. OBJECTIVES: Promote emotional well-being as an important factor of youth development Increase competences in the field of emotional awareness of 24 youth workers Provide tools for enhancing emotional awareness coming from therapeutic methods: Art Therapy, DMT and Improvisational Theatre Provide support for the continuing development of emotional education in present-day diverse societies, with special focus on emotional well-being of young people The important objective of the project was to raise the awareness of the role of emotions in the learning process and provide tools and knowledge on how to tackle the emotions with youngsters. The participants became much more aware of their own emotions and how to handle them in positive ways. They learnt simple tools on how to increase the well-being of young people and how to address the topic of mental health. Especially in the context of the pandemic it was very valuable for the participants to have the space for reflection over the emotional well-being of young people. For most of the participants it was the first physical training since the beginning of the pandemic and therefore it allowed the participants to gently unfold the need for physical contact in a safe environment. Many of them felt much more ready to return to offline meetings which were very often not possible for such a long time.
