Objectives

When we were designing the project in January 2020, the main idea was to develop an experimental and experiential training course where we would focus on the question of VALUES in our work with young people. Our approach was to go together in a special place in the nature, provide a space for reflecting, defining and sharing own values (#KnowWhy) and also explore tools to develop values in young people and communities. Now since COVID-19 and brutal war in Ukraine came into scene, a lot of new challenges are bothering us as individuals and societies and hitting hard on young people we work with. Many of these difficulties are related to dealing with changing reality, uncertainty and mental and physical health and wellbeing. In order to stay safe and sane in these conditions, self-care and human-to-human support is very crucial. In this training in addition to themes related to value-promotion, we included also topics of how to promote our own and young peoples’ well-being and explored essence of youth work in these changing times. The set objectives of this project were: 1.) Providing a space for participants to become more aware about the values that guide them as individuals and youth workers and to motivate them to be more conscious about developing values in young people and their communities. 2.) Discussing the challenges that young people are facing in different countries in Europe and defining 5-7 values/attitudes that need to be promoted in order to support youth empowerment. 3.) Exploring and experiencing as learners already existing approaches and tools for learning values – indoors and outdoors 4.) Training the skills to design and facilitate good quality non-formal learning activities with elements of learning outdoors that develop concrete values/attitudes 5.) Transferring experience from the training to their youth work reality by (1) actualizing the question of learning-values in each partner organization/community and exploring ways to include value development in on individual/organizational/community level, and by (2) implementing at least 8 follow-up developing values/attitudes among young people in home communities.
