Objectives

The project team intended to draw attention to the problem of the cooperation between the generations of youth and the elderly. According to our experience of cooperation so far, we find that intergenerational contacts are insufficient and very limited. This was exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, when contacts were very limited due to concern for seniors. The project showed that a lot can be learned from each other and that the age barrier is not an obstacle. The project pointed out that, regardless of age, intergenerational communication is possible and brings good results. First of all, mutual empathy with each other and understanding increased. The young were not judged so harshly by the older ones, and the young treated the older ones with more respect. The project was an opportunity to build a local partnership between young people from VLC and local groups of seniors from Łobez centered around MOK in Łobez. Similarly to the youth associated with VLC, it was possible to feel that elderly people are people with fewer opportunities, therefore our intention was to activate them, involve them in local activities, and invite them to cooperate. We wanted to show that every human being needs authority and good life models. We wanted to show that the life of seniors in the past and now is not a boring story, but a story full of interesting threads and events that can inspire contemporary generations. In the project, we wanted to show that our seniors are authorities. Youth from VLC need authority figures and it turns out that they are often at hand. However, no one sees them as people who can be authorities. Therefore, this is another reason to cooperate with them, we want them to feel that we need them, we want to use their potential, wisdom and knowledge. Take advantage of their time, experience and skills. Another goal that we want to achieve was cultural exchange, a chance to implement the application in an international group, learning about the approach to seniors in their countries of our guests from abroad. We wanted to be able to learn about the history, traditions and culture of the partner countries. The main goals of our project were: - building cooperation, understanding, partnership and mutual respect between the generations, - building mutual trust between the generations, - wider activities in the field of volunteering, - breaking stereotypes and mutual prejudices, - intergenerational cooperation, - creating bonds between generations, - preventing the social exclusion of seniors, - building equal opportunities and inclusion (access to the program of people with fewer opportunities), - finding local authorities, - getting to know the traditions, rituals, customs and history of Poland, - exchange of experiences, - cultural exchange, - promoting social activity, - multilingualism. Our activities were aimed at showing also the "Polish soul" shaped by previous generations, including our seniors. We wanted to show that the history and biographies of seniors can be interesting and inspiring. We wanted to show that what we are like today largely depends on previous generations. And although each generation and generation goes its own way, some things are the same and apply to everyone, regardless of age.
