Objectives

Youth is a critical stage, in terms of well-being and mental health of human development, since it is the time to develop social interactions, learning and self-control skills. A negative experience, at this point, can have a detrimental effect on both, the development of these skills and their mental health. Exposure to risk factors, in early life, can significantly affect mental and emotional well-being. Young people are a highly vulnerable group to depression and anxiety, due to various factors that they face, every day. The figures about depression in society are extremely alarming. The World Health Organization (WHO), states that depression and anxiety disorders, in Europe, are among the 5 main causes of the general burden of disease, in young people. Suicide is the leading cause of death, among young people, aged 10 to 19, in low and middle income countries, and the second cause in high-income countries. The WHO notes that the number of people living with depression has increased, by 18.4%, between 2005 and 2015. It also warns that depression will be the leading cause of disability, in 2030. Given that, the participating organisations have decided to carry out the project “DANCE: Healthier Lifestyles For youth”, in order to help to reduce this problem, among youth. The main objective of the project is, therefore, to provide our youth workers with a series of tools, knowledge and exchange of dynamics, to create healthy and collaborative spaces, to prevent depression. During the project, we will focus on 8 main pillars, which directly address depression, by creating a series of habits to prevent it, and are areas of daily interest, in the lives of young people: -Emotional Management -Relations -Self-confidence -Addictions -Adultism (Transition from youth to adulthood) -Competition and sports -Traditional culture (Traditional dances as a cultural heritage) -Active participation in society and in Europe The specific objectives (SO) of the project are therefore, as follows: - Providing youth workers with tools for the creation of healthy and collaborative spaces. - Increasing youth workers´skills to connect with young people, through European activities and citizen participation. - Building ideas that lead to future collaborations, within the framework of different key actions of the Erasmus + program.
